About The Graph Network

The Graph (GRT) is a decentralized indexing protocol designed to query and retrieve data from blockchain networks, making it easier for developers to build decentralized applications (dApps). It operates by indexing blockchain data into subgraphs, which are open APIs that developers can query using GraphQL to efficiently access the data they need.

The protocol primarily focuses on querying Ethereum, but it has expanded to support other networks like Arbitrum, Polygon, and Avalanche. By decentralizing the indexing process, The Graph eliminates the need for centralized servers, promoting a more open and reliable infrastructure for blockchain-based applications.

Staking and Governance

GRT is the native token of The Graph and it is used to incentivize network participants. Indexers, who run nodes and process queries, earn GRT for their services, while delegators stake GRT with indexers to earn a share of the rewards without running a node themselves. Curators also play a role by signaling which subgraphs are most valuable, helping prioritize resources. The network's governance is decentralized, allowing GRT holders to vote on protocol upgrades and changes, contributing to its evolving ecosystem.

The unstaking time for GRT is 28 days.

Staking to the Chorus One Public Node requires GRT on Arbitrum.

Read on to learn how to bridge your GRT if applicable.

How to Stake

1.) Install the MetaMask Wallet

For this guide, we will be using MetaMask.

  • If you don't yet have a MetaMask wallet, please follow the official guide from MetaMask to get started and set up your new wallet: Getting Started with MetaMask

  • While MetaMask is compatible with many browsers, Chromium based browsers such as Google Chrome or Brave tend to have the best compatibility across various dApps.

2.) Acquire GRT on Arbitrum

You can acquire some GRT from an exchange, other swapping services, or a trusted third party.

3.) Navigate to the Chorus One Public Node

Once you've bridged your GRT to Arbitrum, you can navigate directly to the Chorus One Public Node at the following address:

The Chorus One Public Node page will look similar to the screenshot below.

Press 'Connect' to link your MetaMask wallet to the GRT staking interface.

Example of the GRT staking interface for the Chorus One Public Node.
Select MetaMask for the wallet.

Once your MetaMask wallet is connected, it's important to make sure that the Arbitrum Network is selected.

  • You can see this in the upper-right corner of your screen in a drop down menu next to your wallet address once your wallet is connected.

4.) Stake your GRT

Now that your wallet is connected you can click on the 'Delegate' button from the Chorus One Public Node page.

You will be prompted with a screen similar to the following.

  • This will show you the rates and APY for your delegation as well as remaining space on the public node.

You can enter how much GRT you wish to delegate (stake) and then click on 'Allow GRT Access' and sign the transaction.

Example of the delegation page for GRT.

Next, you will be prompted to set a spending cap for your GRT.

Infinite will be suggested by default, however, you can change this and set an amount of your choosing.

  • Next, sign the transaction and proceed on to delegate your GRT.

Example of the GRT spending cap approval.

Once you have approved the GRT spending transaction you can then click on the 'Delegate' button and sign the transaction to complete your GRT delegation.

How to Unstake your GRT

To unstake your GRT, all you will need to do is navigate back to the Chorus One Public Node and connect your MetaMask wallet similar to the steps performed in the staking process earlier.

From there you will see your current staked GRT balance next to the 'Delegate' button.

  • Simply click on the dropdown menu to the right of the 'Delegate' button to see the 'Undelegate' option.

Example of the 'Undelegate' option from the drop down menu.

From there you will see an interface similar to the screenshot below where you can review your total delegated GRT balance.

Example of the GRT unstaking screen.

You can choose to undelegate (unstake) all of your GRT or choose a specific amount.

  • Once you've chosen, simply click on the 'Undelegate' button and sign the transaction in your wallet.

  • Your GRT will then begin the unstaking process.

When the 28 days has passed, you can then withdraw your GRT using similar steps from the unstaking process by using the drop down menu next to the 'Delegate' button.
